Suppose you are a 15 year old Sophomore in high school. Your worst fears have just been confirmed: you're pregnant. Do you really know the facts about each of the options that you are now facing?
Decisions, Choices and Options is an educational presentation for high school students providing information about each of the options a young woman faces in an unplanned pregnancy. The goal of this program is to provide current, factual information and correct any misconceptions regarding any of the three options. The program is directed by a licensed and certified high school teacher and incorporates speakers who have personal experience with teen pregnancy. The speakers present the information in a manner that engages the students in the presentation and allows them to see first-hand the reality of what these choices involve.

Teen Pregnancy in the United States Today: More than 764,000 teen pregnancies occurred in 2002. To put it another way, more than 80 U.S. teens become pregnant every hour. More than 1/3 of those pregnancies were to girls under the age of 18, and 65% were to girls age 18-19. |

Decisions, Choices and Options Breakdown: Of the 765,000 teenagers who become pregnant in the United States each year, roughly 50-55% will choose to parent the child, 30-35% will choose to have an abortion, and less than 1% will choose to make an adoption plan for the child. Most teens have very little correct, fact-based knowledge of the consequences or life-long effects of the choices made during a very emotional and formative time in their lives. This decision, when made without all of the facts, has an impact on the pregnant teen, the child she is carrying, her family, the biological father and his family and our entire nation for decades. |
